STANDARD DEFINITION CONVERSION

PAL video has 625 lines of resolution at a 25 frame per second rate.
NTSC video has 525 lines of resolution at a 30 frame per second rate.

There are (2) basic types of conversions for PAL and NTSC standard definition video. If the program was originally shot on video or is comprised of a combination of video and film based material, the conversion process is done with a 4 field converter.

If the program was originlly shot on film (24 FPS) and telecine transferred with a 3:2 cadence, a film based converter is used to mathematically create a PAL: 25 frame or NTSC: 30 frame per second conversion equivalent. Audio can also be converted to run in sync with video at both PAL and NTSC speeds.

DPS utilizes both of these converter systems and methods to optimize the process of worldwide delivery while minimizing and/or eliminating conversion related lag and artifacts.

HIGH DEFINITION CROSS CONVERSION
Anytime a tape is changed from its original format or frame rate this process is considered a Cross Conversion.

HIGH DEFINITION DOWN CONVERSION
The process of converting a High Definition source to Standard Definition in either NTSC or PAL. Since High Definition material is shaped differently than Standard Definition, an Aspect Ratio Conversion must also be employed.
